This week saw Humphrey Feeds and Pullets customers, Martin and Nikki Lawrence of Meadowside Free Range Eggs, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, win the prestigious Producer of the Year Award (over 16k birds) at the 2019 BFREPA Awards.
Martin and Nikki Lawrence collected their award at a special gala dinner, held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel NEC, Birmingham on Monday evening.
The Free Range Awards, hosted by the British Free Range Egg Producers Association (BFREPA) highlight excellence from companies and individuals who make sustained, positive contributions to the free range sector.
The BFREPA Producer of the Year Award recognises those who have excelled in their production of free range eggs. Martin and Nikki Lawrence took home the over 16k birds producer of the year title for what the judges described as an ‘impressive focus on technology and innovation to drive resilience, welfare and efficiency’.
Judges were impressed by the couple’s commitment to increasing efficiency through the development of a unique automated packing system, that now means packing time for the 64k bird unit can be completed in under four hours.
With the support of Humphrey Feeds and Pullets poultry specialist Gwenda Wozencraft, this innovation has enabled Martin and Nikki to turn their attention to optimising production. As a result, eggs per bird have consistently risen year on year.
Celebrating their 10th anniversary as free-range egg producers, Meadowside Free Range Eggs have a moto to work around the hens and not the other way around. Over the past 10 years, the farm has tripled in size whilst also consistently improving performance and efficiency.
The Humphrey Feeds and Pullets team were delighted to celebrate Martin and Nikki’s success with them at the BFREPA conference and exhibition. The team had a great time meeting up with new and existing free range egg customers and listening to the presentations.
