Poultry farmers are among those encouraged to join the historic celebrations
Celebrations are planned across the country to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this summer. Farmers are being encouraged to join The Platinum Jubilee Beacons, the first community event of the four-day Jubilee weekend on Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June.
Britain’s longest reigning monarch
The Queen overtook Queen Victoria as the longest reigning monarch in 2015, and she is the first British monarch ever to have celebrated a Platinum Jubilee, having reached 70 years on the throne on 6 February.
A range of public events and community activities are planned for the four day UK Bank Holiday weekend, giving people the chance to reflect upon Her Majesty’s dedicated years of service and celebrate with their communities.
The Platinum Jubilee Beacons
A beacon chain, once used as a tool for communication, has now become a symbol of unity across towns, borders, countries and continents and is often the focus for outdoor gatherings.
The long tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees with the lighting of beacons will be continued to mark the Platinum Jubilee. Seventy beacons across every UK county will be lit on Thursday 2 June, and over 1,500 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.
Light your own Community Beacon
Farmers are among those encouraged to support the celebrations by setting up and lighting their own Community Beacons - public or private events which provide a focus for local celebrations and may be entered into a ‘Book of Beacons’ later presented to The Queen.
There is plenty of guidance on the Jubilee Beacons website on how to build and manage your free-standing gas-fuelled beacon, beacon brazier or bonfire beacon, as well as suggestions for an informal ceremony and how to publicise your event.
Register by 31 May
To take part, farmers must register their public or private event with Queens Jubilee Beacons by 31st May 2022. Registered farmers can then host their beacon at a farm location of their choice.
After the event, farms lighting beacons will be urged to plant a circle of seven trees, each tree permanently representing each decade of the Queen’s reign as well as helping the sustainability of our planet.
